DR. GERMAIN J. BOUCHARD LIBRARY
Dr. Germain J. Bouchard was a prominent member of the Greater
Lowell medical community for 47 years, serving on the staffs of Lowell’s three hospitals: St. John’s,
St. Joseph’s, and Lowell General.
He attended St. Anselm College prior to receiving a doctorate of medicine from Laval University in Quebec
and completed his residency in Urology at New York Hospital. A veteran of World War II, Dr. Bouchard served
with the Army Medical Corps as a specialist in Urology. In 1948, he moved to Lowell, where he began
his practice of urology.
He served as president of the medical staff at St. John’s Hospital,
and, at the time of his death in 1996, Dr. Bouchard was chief of the Urology Outpatient Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
At that time, the Dr. Germain J. Bouchard Library Endowment Fund was established, enabling Franco American School
to purchase hundreds of beautiful books to enrich the learning experience of its students. In 1998, Franco American
School's newly-renovated library was dedicated in his memory.
